  • John Gorton b.6/2/1742 d.5/14/1819 Hancock, MA m. on 2/2/1764 Mary Manwarring b.8/31/1744 d.3/4/1776 New London, CT but moved to Richmond, NH bought 80 acres of land (9/21/1786) sold this farm receiving payment in currently circulating currency which was repudiated by the legislature before he could re-invest. The Society of Friends, of which he was a member, presented him with a sum of money to make up a part of his loss. Established a weaving and retail cloth business in North Adam, MA. Moved in 1800 to Hancock,MA.

Baptized 2/12/1592 or 1593 in Cathedral Church Manchester, England. Married Mary Maplett baptized 3/12/1608 or 1609 in St. Lawrence Jewry London. Emigrated from England in 1637.
