Grandparents of Carol A. Bridges-Gorton

Grandparents of Carol A Bridges Gorton:
John Frank Brown (Behnke) 1852-1919            Anna Maria Koenig-Brown 1860-1929
   John F. Behnke was born on May 4, 1852 in Koenigsberg, Prussia (Kaliningrad, Russia) to Christian and Susanna Behnke. J.F. may have come from a large family of 11 brothers. He served in the Prussian navy. His ship was near South America when the Franco-Prussian War broke out and he and some shipmates did not want to return home to fight the war so they jumped ship. He traveled north from Rio de Janeiro and worked his way up the Mississippi River. When he reached Alma, he walked to Montana, WI where he knew of a German settlement from Koenigsberg. He changed his name to the more common Braun. When the children started school they Americanized the spelling to Brown. J.F. married Anna Maria Koenig on October 12,1882. They had two children before moving to Eau Claire in about 1887. Four more children were born to them there. He died on March 20, 1919 in Eau Claire of a heart attack while chopping wood. He is buried in the German Lutheran Cemetery of St. John's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, WI.
   Anna was born on April 18,1860 in Honey Creek, WI to Carl Koenig and Susanna Lohr. Anna died on December 29,1929 in Eau Claire and is buried in the German Lutheran Cemetery of St. John's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.

   Carl Koenig was born April 3,1822 in Prussia(Germany).He immigrated Sept 16,1854 on the ship Agnes from Bremen to New York. Their destination was Wisconsin. They lived in Honey Creek, WI and Baraboo, WI and had 11 children. He was a farmer and purchased 40 acres of land in Montana, WI on May 15, 1867. He became a US citizen in May, 1868. He died at his son Robert's home in Baraboo, WI on December 24, 1907.
   Susanna was born on June 9,1827 in Schleswig, Germany to Gottlieb and Mary Lohr. She is listed as the midwife on birth certificates of her grandchildren: Christian Carl Krell, Frank Carl Brown and Edward Brown. he died on January 12,1906 at her son Robert's home in Baraboo, WI.
   Carl and Susanna had 11 children:
  1. Charles (Carl) Koenig (Jan 14,1852-Feb,21,1904) Never married lived in Montana, WI. He died in Mendota, Sauk Co,WI.
  2. Susanna Koenig Janiszroski (Honey Creek,WI 1855-before 1946) Married Johann Janiszroski and lived in Tomah,WI and may have changed their name to Shaskey.
  3. William Koenig (Honey Creek,WI 1857-before 1946) Married Francis Liga 6/15/1882 and lived in Independence, WI and moved to Kensil, ND.
  4. Robert Koenig (Honey Creek,WI November 12,1858-Feb, 28,1946) Married Mary Willey Jun,19,1883 in Praire du Sac,WI and lived in Baraboo, WI.
  5. Anna Maria Koenig Brown (Honey Creek,WI April 18,1860-Dec 29,1929) Married J. Frank Brown (Behnke) and had 6 children listed below.
  6. Augusta Koenig Rose (Montana,WI May 20,1861-before 1946) Married Karl Louis Rose Nov 9,1880 and lived in Arcadia, WI and had 7 children.
  7. John Koenig (1862-after 1946) Married Gusta Sauer Mar 21,1892 and lived in Winona, MN but moved to Portalnd, OR in 1946.
  8. Agnes Koenig Krell Prigge (Montana March 13,1864-Nov,10,1929) Married Christian Krell May 23,1882 and lived in Montana, WI and had 6 children.  She married Friedrich William Prigge Jan 20,1898 in Eau Claire, WI and they had 2 children.
  9. Rosa Koenig Klose (Montana, WI October 23,1865-after 1946) Married Gottlieb Klose (before 1892). In 1907 she was living in Holton, MI and in 1946 was living in Battle Creek, MI.
  10. Christian Koenig (Montana, WI 1868-1941) He had 4 children who brother Robert cared for at one time.
  11. Pauline Koenig (Montana, WI June 25,1870-before 1880) Montana, WI.

John Frank Brown (Behnke) and Anna Maria Koenig Brown had six children:
  1. Frank Carl Brown (June 13,1883 Montana, WI-about 1961) Married Mary M. Augustine. Moved to Port Arther, Canada.
  2. Edward Brown (February 21,1886 Montana, WI-1964) Married Catherine Marie Bohrn. He worked for the City of Eau Claire Water Department and was promoted to Superintendent.
  3. Walter Brown (Eau Claire, WI 1887-1888)
  4. Otto Emil Brown (June 7,1891 Eau Claire, WI-1942) Married Emma Schmidt.
  5. Henry William Brown (May9,1896 Eau Claire, WI-1950) Married Minnie Guthman.
  6. Anna Maria Augusta Matilda Brown (January 31,1900 Eau Claire, WI-1951) Married Thomas A. Bridges on August 12,1922 in Eau Claire. She died on May 6th, 1951 and she is buried in Lake View Cemetery in Eau Claire, WI.
